Lizzie and Dru are close small town buddies who each have their past scars to carry. Lizzie was present at her father's horrifying death and Dru comes from a home with a miserable jerk father whom the reader just can't wait for Helder to remove. Lizzie is the only winner of a monster lottery and the book is about dealing with that rather fun concept. Lizzie and Dru, Maggie and Dan (Lizzie's parents) and even Lizzie's brother Danny are all saints whom I came to trust with my affection and interest.
The reader also comes to trust Helder - that she will take care of these wonderful people who have to weather the abrupt changes which inevitably accompany what seems to be the best of luck. Lottery winners are not often a happy lot. They routinely are people who have no clue about money and especially have no clue about how easy it is to get rid of. They are always broke in a couple of years, get an interview on a human interest show and then disappear as quickly as the "friends" who scammed them out of their winnings. Sad every time. But not here. Every opportunity for disaster presents itself, but the characters make the right choices. The novel is a kind of guidebook for lottery winners, if you happen to know any. It is an easy comfortable read which gives you the confidence to ease through the rough bits certain that everything will turn out in the end for the best.
Let me tell you this, though: if there is a follow up book, which there should be, Dan, saint that he may be, is going to jump right in the middle of some poor devil's ass for his treatment of Lizzie. I think I know who it is but I cannot be certain. Can't wait.

This book is well-crafted with characters that are interesting and funny--the author showed the ability to make you care about each of them. The pacing is just right and the plot is interesting and not predictable. A great read!
A wonderful well written story of a young woman who wins the lottery. Her life is exciting to say the least but not as you may expect which added more intrigue for me. I easily placed myself in the story and could relate to all the settings. Excellent, Excellent and Excellent.
